<![CDATA[Art Contests - High School and Middle School Course Catalog Design and PTA Reflections]]>Sun, 09 Sep 2018 18:38:21 GMThttp://milesbowenart.com/home/art-contests-high-school-and-middle-school-course-catalog-design-and-pta-reflectionsWelcome back to McNeil for the 2018-19 school year! I would like to encourage my students to participate in the RRISD High School and Middle School course catalog design competition for the upcoming school year and/or the PTSA Reflections Contest. Students should contact me ASAP if they are interested in participating in either/both competitions. The details and specifics are listed below.

The McNeil PTSA is once again offering the Reflections Program for 2018-2019. Student entry forms are available at the link below, on our PTSA website and we will offer a few printed ones to the students’ suites. Entry DEADLINE is Oct. 24th (to the suites). If you know a student who would enjoy this program or would like to explore his/her creativity, please encourage him/her to enter.

Reflections has been a staple arts program in many schools for 50 years. Through the efforts of our Local PTAs, millions of students have found a creative outlet in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.
With positive recognition as the focus of this program, rather than competition, students of all ages and abilities can experience the benefits of creative expression and help in finding their own voice in telling their unique story.
Started in 1969 by Mary Lou Anderson, then Colorado PTA President, Reflections has grown to be one of the largest nationwide programs of its kind, with more than 200,000 students participating annually.

Course Catalog:
With a month into the 2018-19 school year, we are beginning to plan the 2019-20 school year with the compilation of the High School and Middle School Course Catalogs. An exciting part of the process is the course catalog cover contest.
Here are the specifics:
  • The same design will used for both the high school and middle school course catalogs.
  • The winning designer and their teacher will have their names printed on the inside cover of the catalog.
  • The image should fit within 8.5"x11" boundaries.
  • Consider the background color in design; if the color is too dark, it may make printing difficult and/or too expensive.
  • Catalogs from previous years can be found on the RRISD website.
https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/0B13hERGxqDqDcjhOR0ppckJ1X2c
  • Required information that must be on the cover -
    • 2019-2020 or 2019-20
    • Round Rock ISD
    • HS or MS names
  • Deadline for entries is NOON on October 15
    • Students should print their design on 8.5"x11" paper in color.
    • No student identifying information should be anywhere on the product. That is, no student name or course name should appear on front or back.

<![CDATA[Mural at McNeil High School]]>Sun, 08 Apr 2018 21:25:50 GMThttp://milesbowenart.com/home/mural-at-mcneil-high-schoolEarlier in 2018, my students and I were asked to design and create a mural for the new attendance office at McNeil High School. The attendance office was relocated to this location as a result of construction at McNeil. My students have taken the challenge of beautifying their school in stride, and are creating a mural inspired by Maverick spirit and the highlighting the various academies within our academy program at McNeil. We have begun the painting phase! More to come as we progress with the mural...
